Every year from the 2nd to the 8th of the fourth lunar month, the Po Lin Monastery hosts a major ceremonial service of Buddha bathing to commemorate the Birthday of the Buddha. A basin of water with a baby Buddha statue is placed before the Hall of Great Hero. Visitors can participate in the Buddha bathing ritual, washing the statue with scented water to cleanse all delusions and karma defilements, thereby attaining the clean, original and innate Buddhist qualities.
